Dr Beynon's Bug Farm and Grub Kitchen

THE BUG FARM | LOWER HARGLODD FARM, ST DAVIDS, PEMBROKESHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM, SA62 6BX
07966 956357

Welcome to The Bug Farm – an innovative and unique research and visitor centre, farm and nature reserve. With a Tropical Bug Zoo, Bug Museum, British Bug House, Insect Farming Exhibition, Farm Trails and a Walled Garden, there is something for everyone, whatever your age or interest. Our focus on wildlife conservation and sustainable farming and food of the future spans the site. Onsite cafe Grub Kitchen is the UK’s first full-time edible insect restaurant, with plenty of non-insect dishes available too.

We are a visitor attraction that offers a fantastic experience for families, adults and groups. Since opening our doors in 2015, The Bug Farm has received numerous awards and is a Visit Wales Quality Assured visitor attraction.

The Bug Farm is based on 100 acres of Pembrokeshire’s finest countryside. With indoor and outdoor exhibits, we hope to showcase the wonders of bugs and what they do for us. Although we don’t always realise it, invertebrates have a vital role in modern society. They guide modern technology; inspire art; benefit our gardens; but, perhaps most importantly, they form the foundation to the planet’s food chains. Bugs are integral to farming and a very big part of our mission is to raise awareness of ‘sustainable agriculture’: producing enough food to feed a growing population and looking after wildlife at the same time.

The Bug Farm are offering 10% discounted entry with a race card to Challenge Wales athletes, so if you're visiting Pembrokeshire for a training weekend or for race day, fuel up with Grub Kitchen's Gourmet Bug Burger and VEXo Bolognese. These are the perfect dishes to fuel your adventure, containing more protein than their meat alternatives with up to 80% less saturated fat. If you don't have time to stop for lunch, don't forget to pop into the gift shop to pick up the protein-packed insect powder or cricket snacks, which contain over 60% protein.

Top Tip - Start with a sprint tri early in the season. Swansea is a good one to get your confidence up as the swim is in SA1 Dock which is a great environment as you don’t have to battle the seas tide and currents.

It’s important to keep your threshold swimming going over during the ‘off’ season. Below you find two swim sessions which will help you going into the winter months. Try these twice a week and record your times. You can adjust the rest times and distances according to your ability. Feel free to reach out to the coaches at Heathwood swimming in Cardiff for extra help or any questions you may have regarding swim sets or drills.

For most of us the open water swimming season is coming to an end or is basically over. In October the UK water temperature in the sea, lakes & reservoirs are dropping rapidly and where you were able to swim in 17 to 20 degrees its now more like 12 or 13oc.
